Steak Sandwiches

Steak Sandwiches

I went to a spot up in Westchester with delicious bar food and stumbled upon a steak sandwich which inspired me to come up with my own version. A week later I made sure to give it a try, improving their recipe a bit by adding garlic bread and mozzarella cheese, two ingredients I can’t seem to live without, and came up with something amazing.  Make these for your next tailgate, dinner, or party– they’re sure to be a hit!

Yield: 3-4 Servings

Ingredients:

For The Garlic Bread:

· 6 large garlic cloves, chopped finely

· 1/4 cup parsley, chopped

· 1/4 cup basil, chopped

· 1/2 teaspoon salt

· 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

· 1/2 cup olive oil

· 1/4 cup butter, melted

· 1 loaf of bread, cut into 3 pieces.

For The Steak:

· Flank steak, about 1 pound

· Salt & pepper, for seasoning

· 1/4 cup olive oil

For The Topping:

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Combine all of the ingredients for the garlic bread in a bowl and mix well.

3. Cut the loaf of bread into 3 to 4 pieces and split each roll. Brush the insides well with the garlic-butter mixture. Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for only 3 minutes, split side up and open. Keep a close eye on these as they crisp quickly in the oven.

4. Heat up a grill pan. Season the flank steak with olive oil, salt and pepper. Grill the steak to your desired liking (I like my steak medium rare, which is about 7 minutes per side. It also depends on the thickness of the steak. The internal temperature should be about 140 degrees F). After the steak is cooked, wrap it up in aluminum foil and set aside for about 5 minutes. Also, remember, the steak will be placed in the oven later on so it will keep cooking.

5. Now is time for the stacking up. First, slice up your steak in about 1/2 inch pieces. Place the sliced steak on the garlic bread (no specific amount per portion, just split it up evenly). Then, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top of the steak.  Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and put them in the oven until the mozzarella cheese is full melted and bubbly, about 10 minutes.

6. Remove the sandwiches from the oven and either eat them as is or top it off with as many of each toppings as you'd like. The sauteed onions, tomatoes, and avocado add even more delicious flavors. Enjoy!
